Mt. Arrowsmith - May 2015

Mt. Arrowsmith, BC

Although certain events left a damper on the day, we had quite a nice hike and camp up Mt. Arrowsmith last weekend.

Rising up.

It was a nice, sunny climb up. A helicopter circled around the range a few times shortly after we reached our camping spot, above the saddle between Mt. Cokely and Mt. Arrowsmith.

The rain started just as dinner was ready. The hail came shortly thereafter. It was a cozy/noisy dinner in the tent.

I’m glad we brought a tarp.

The rain and hail only lasted 40 minutes or so. The light began to get quite nice after that.

It’s almost there…

There it is. A short while later the sun sunk below the clouds and we were treated to a nice sunset.

It was quite a different view in the early morning.

We took a 6AM hike up to the first peak. We weren’t well equipped to reach the summit from this side, but the views were quite nice just the same.

Handstands, everywhere she goes.

It was a treat not to have to haul our camping gear up to the top. The trail is steep at parts.

After our morning hike, we packed up camp and headed down.

Trees and trees.

Unfortunately, we came down to the road to find our car severely vandalized, with bullet holes in the glass, tires, body, and interior. I won’t go into any further detail than that. Several media outlets have covered the story.

There were many .22 shells about.

Despite all that, it was a really great hike. My dad and step mom were kind enough to come and pick us up and wait around (and call) for the tow truck, on my dad’s birthday no less.
